Katrina Khouri, who has spoken with us before, was here this time representing  Great Lakes Health Connect, explaining its inception and its role in the Genesee County area’s health care scene. The HITECH Act http://(https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=12&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwim4-jaxrXSAhUGNiYKHc9gAIAQFghIMAs&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FHealth_Information_Technology_for_Economic_and_Clinical_Health_Act&usg=AFQjCNFnrcapIYVnSsKr7bDgiYsv0R4mOA&sig2=a-oVBMNlxlm_dMOqRGhfUQ&bvm=bv.148441817,d.eWE promoted the development and use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in order to protect, transfer, and share information needed for high quality patient care (sample cases might include an out-of-town health crisis, need for specialist consultation from remote areas, or business relocation of a patient).  Because of the rapid proliferation of programs without standardization in hardware and software, a new “interface” was needed in order to facilitate the communication. Local physicians contributed their interest and resources ($250K) to develop a “non-profit Health Information Exchange”. While mental health information is not currently included, a “cool tool” – VIPR (Virtual Integrated Patient Record)—is now available to 7.5M people in the area. Protected by hgh-level encryption and requiring patient consent for registration, this system allows increased efficiency and effectiveness in the transfer of accurate information and coordination of care without jeopardizing patient privacy.

The sound of President Peter Venos’s bell had barely stopped ringing in our ears this morning when Jack Medemar enthusiastically agreed to lead the Pledge to the flag and Jack Proffitt spoke the invocation. Bill Hentgen bought the auctioned Crown for $3 before fining “sneaky” Patrick Naswell for his quiet entrance to the meeting of 20, and he assessed another fine against those not among the 12 who attended the recent Firebirds Hockey game. Steve Schlott took the “spitting into the wind” award for fining TailTwister Jack Medemar for missing several meetings and then the entire Club for being afraid of the TailTwister. Mic Goulet fined Floyd Olmstead after confirmed that he was, in fact, alive. Bonnie Kelley held the “50/50” winning ticket for a $24 pot, after which Speaker Chair Mic Goulet introduced Katrina Khouri as our guest speaker and closed the meeting with the Creed after she finished.
