Ann Kellley, from the Davison Optimist Club and the Whaley Childrens Center Board returned to speak with our club about our interest in Whaley and the Optimist House. Regular birthday celebrations, monthly dinners, Christmas gifts and parties, and various sports events are continuing for the residents of Optimist House, at an annual expensed of approximately $3,000. We have been a part of this in the past and our specific commitment can be revaluated and outlined to the Davison Club, which now carries virtually all of the the cost. Mindy Prusa, Whaley’s current CEO, receives high praise from staff, residents, Board, and community and is presently working with the Board to chart Whaley’s future. More to come as developments unfold.
Bill Hentgen was present early to hawk “50/50” tickets, which he did very well, until President Jeff Dennings rang in the morning’s meeting. Speaker Chair Mic Goulet led the Pledge and Ken Cullen gave before the food and fines flew: Chris Reed, our newest member, made a grand and belated entrance wearing a cowboy hat and paid fines for this but retaliated against anyone who didn’t recognize how “cool” he looked; Matt Mrasek, keeping with the clothing theme, fined Jim Reigle, for his “lumberjack lookalike” appearance and was fined in return for spending more time filing income tax returns than retirement papers; Kim Banat upstaged Cowboy Chris with her “Caped Crusader” costume, and Bill Hentgen came to her defense with a fine against anyone not wearing high heels, prompting Pete Venos to suggest that Bill might be confused about bathroom usage. Bob Gaines, our only guest today, observed and wondered what the world is coming to, concluding that it wasn’t so bad when he won today’s “50/50” pot.
