This week we had David Leyton and John Potberry from the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office. They spoke about the issues of violent crime and early release on violent felons in the prison system., as well as many other topics. Have a safe labor day and we will see you in two weeks.

We are not meeting next week, because the Flint Golf Club is closed.

Brooke brought us our speaker today from the Community Foundation. There was much discussion over their “Young Professionals” group, whose age ranges from 19-49. Our group encouraged Enosh and Nate to consider joining, seeing how they were the only ones in attendance young enough.

We are planning some discussions about what we could do for our annual fund raiser.

We had a lively fine session. Brooke was fined by Steve for using her smart phone. Steve was then fined for picking on Carol last week.

Congratulations to Becki who is filling in as interim director at Whaley.

We had another great meeting. Murphy was still accepting well deserved complements for his work on the party and gave us some preliminary numbers on how well we did.

Joe accepted my invitation to be our guest speaker on short notice. (he is after all the king of short notice guest speakers). Joe told the story of his rise from buying a 50 person company by mortgaging his parents house and turning it into a nearly 500 person company today. Great to her his success story.

The fines were really flying today. Dean was heard to say “I can not believe I got beat by Chuck”. In all we had a great time.

Joe and Amber brought us our quest speaker today, Marquise Gray who is the new program director at the Boys and Girls Club. Marquise is a former MSU basketball star who played 8 years overseas. He shared his hopes to help Flint and his experiences traveling the world.

It also seems Marquise was the celebrity Golfer at yesterdays outing. Joe and Amber paid up for not knowing Marquise was left handed. He shot right handed most of the day. Amber also deflected a golf shot with her head. Tauzzari paid a fine for not asking for a doctor. His wife who is a doctor was golfing in the outing.

We were honored to have Larry at our meeting to today. In typical Larry form his quote was “better to be seen and not viewed”.

Joe brought us one of his employees today as our speaker. Ion who runs his McLaren security crew spoke to us about his “hobby” as a thespian. Ion is part of the Kearsley Park Players. He shared how his group provides free theater shows for group like our Boy’s and Girl’s Club.

Murphy made a late appearance and gave everyone an update on the 80th Summer Swing coming up.

We had a good turn out and Jon worked with the club to stream line the food ordering process so we were done at 1:30. Great work Jon. The fines were flying today. Chuck, Carol, Joe, Dean, Tauzzari and Enosh all paid up. Murphy is hard at work on our 80th anniversary party. Get your tickets and support this great event. Amber gav4e us an update on the bike give away. She is also still collecting bikes if you have any.

Carol is still looking for Crim Walkers.

Our guest speaker today was Adam Hartley from Gearup2lead. Adam spoke to our group a year ago and updated us on his new name and his mission.

Scott extended his streak of great speakers, today bringing us Andrew Younger from the Crim Fitness Foundation. Andrew filled us in on all the things about the Crim. Carol and Jon are putting together a team to walk the Crim.

Reminder we have our bike give away on Thursday, at noon, at the Haskell Center. We will be handing out popsicles and outstanding member plaques as well. We hope to see you Thursday.

We have AJ Hartley speaking next week.

Murphy is hard at work on our 80 year anniversary party. He has tickets to the event, and raffle tickets. Contact him if you have not got yours yet.

Enosh is looking for Golfers for the Boys and Girls Club outing July 20th. Contact him if interested.

Bob did a great job of putting together our scholarships again this year. He was out of town, but Clyde did a great job filling in. The winners, all from Flint Northwestern were:

Lyrica Kelly
Kiosha Quasha Gladney
Marquawan Burnett

They were joined by family and school staff and all spoke about their volunteer effects in our community. I posted pictures on our Facebook page.

We are meeting next Tuesday. We will follow up that with buying pizza Thursday at noon and handing out some bikes at Haskell. We also have two youth of the year plaques to hand out.

Enosh also handed out some raffle tickets.

Scott brought in another great speaker today, Tracy Fowler-Johnston from the food bank. Tracy did a great job explaining all the great work that the Food Bank does, as well as how and where they get their food.

Next week President Bob will be back and we will award our scholarships. We have set a special event for Thursday July 2nd at Haskell to hand out bikes. We will still have our usually Tuesday meeting. So start getting your used bikes together. Chuck paid his usual fines, and Murphy kept trying to take over the meeting. Murphy has Pizza planned for the kids at Whaley next Thursday, but needs some extra help because he is headed out of town on vacation.
