I brought DeAndra McCain as our speaker today. She used to work with me over at Whaley, then was in sales at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. She recently accepted the position as the Director of the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. You can learn more about them here: http://www.flintandgenesee.org/visit/about-the-cvb/

She mentioned a couple of event they have coming up. The first is on October 1, and it’s the chance to become a certified travel advisor. It’s a pretty interesting program, and I’ll forward more information once I receive it from DeAndra. The second is the “Be a Tourist in your Hometown” event. It’s held annually in July. Also, this Thursday, we have two events. At 2 p.m., Michael Murphy will be heading over the Haskell Center to fix up a few bikes and get all the kids ready for the upcoming school year. If you want to help him put air in tires, replace tubes and put some smiles on kids’ faces, meet him over there.

Speaking of putting smiles on kids’ faces, we have our monthly Whaley pizza party this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. I hope some of you can come out and join us. It would be nice if we could add a few other adults to the dodgeball team other than just me and Michael Murphy. Hint hint 😉

Finally a note from Michael Murphy: Genesee County Prosecuting Attorney David Leyton will be speaking to our Optimist Club Tuesday September 1st at noon at the Flint Golf Club, 3100 Lakewood Dr, Flint, MI 48507. He would like to speak about the proposals to change Michigan’s felony Firearm Laws and the status of Michigan prison populations.

Sorry if I forgot anything! See you all next week!
