So How Do I Join?

Before you get started, let’s go over the process so that you’ll know what to expect each step of the way.

First of all, there is a one time fee for an Optimist International Membership Packet and then quarterly dues that we have to pay for members to continue to belong to Optimist International. All monies are collected through PayPal. Online billing should not be a surprise because we are an eClub, so what other method would there be? PayPal will say “Optimist Club of West Flint”. Do not be alarmed. They are our sponsor club and until we get a tax id, we have to use their PayPal account.

We collect $20 to pay to Optimist International for the member kit and the quarterly dues are $29.99. So for you to join today, you will be spending a total of $49.99. Then every 3 months, you’ll automatically be charged $29.99 for the following quarter. Membership dues are paid in advance and membership can be cancelled anytime.

Other than the money, we just need some personal information and the name of the person sponsoring your membership, if any.

There is a button below that says “Buy Now”. That is going to be the beginning of your journey. It is going to take you to PayPal and have you pay the $20. We will be using the Shipping Information to fill out your membership information, so make sure the information is correct.Use the Special Instructions area to let us know the name of your sponsor, if any, and other information that you think we may need.

Upon the success of paying for the Membership Packet, you will be taken to a page with a “Subscribe Now” button. Use this button to sign up for payment of the quarterly dues. Reminder: Both of these PayPal transactions are necessary for us to process your membership request.

Upon success of setting up payment of quarterly dues, you will be taken to a Welcome page where there is an Interest Finder.

Our Positive Approach

Our upbeat outlook and our commitment to creating a more optimistic future for kids is what differentiates Optimist Clubs from any other volunteer opportunity.

Communities in the United States, Canada, the nations of the Caribbean and other countries throughout the world have been touched by the powerful, positive force of the Optimist Club Members.

From sponsoring youth athletic leagues, to weatherizing the homes of the elderly, to conducting oratorical contests for young people – Optimists Clubs are responding to the special needs of our local communities.

Although we come from all walks of life, Optimist Club Members share one common trait. We know that we can make a difference in the lives of others.

What Should I Expect?

Every Optimist Club was formed by people who wanted to reach out to help youth and the community; people like you and me.

Each Optimist Club is chartered as a Member of Optimist International. This gives the Club the right to use the Optimist name and provides each Club with services and programs offered by Optimist International.

Each Optimist Club operates autonomously. This means they operate independently of each other. They choose their own activities, elect their own officers and raise their own funds. A Club’s service activities are based on the needs of the community. What a Club can do is limited only by the imagination and resources of the Members.

Optimist Clubs do share certain similarities. This offers you, the Member, the assurance of knowing wherever you are, should you wish to attend an Optimist Club’s meeting, certain components will be the same.

The programs and guest speakers offer the Members an opportunity to learn, grow and improve themselves. The program features the youth in the community, as in the Essay and Oratorical Contests or in the Youth Appreciation activities. Club meetings help to reinforce commitment and allow us to take pride in our accomplishments.

Purposes of an Optimist Club

To develop Optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed;

To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for law;

To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people;

To aid and encourage the development of youth in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.

Our Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself . . .

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
