Our planned speaker from the St. Francis Prayer Center fell down some stairs, broke a leg, and is undergoing surgery today, so she is planning to be with us on September 19., according to John Losinski.
Without a formal speaker, we followed the normal opening procedure (Phil Holmblade‘s bell-ringing, Jim Reigle‘s Pledge of Allegiance, and Jack Proffitt‘s prayer) with reviews of the recent Michigan District OI Convention and what the four West Flint Club attendees learned in Bay City. Phil reviewed a new membership contest as well as changes in membership dues arrangements and options.
We discussed how pleased we were that Bill Hentgen can see better after his cataract surgery – could eyesight issues account for his shirt selection? – and that Art Ridley is recovering well after having his aortic aneurysm repaired. (Thanks for the information, Steve Schlott. We hope to see you back here soon, Art!) Greg Hilliker summarized a letter given to Matt Mrasek listing desired possible donation items for Hurley child patients. Mic Goulet has reserved Flushing Valley facilities for the $5,000 Raffle scheduled for March 26, 2020, and he will generate a budget for the event as Jack Proffitt begins the license acquisition. The other members discussed food/drink options for this event, with additional information and ideas from Judge Joe Farah, as well as the Installation Banquet, set for September 19, 2019, at Ruggero’s, thanks to Jeff Dennings. We all voted for “Optimist of the Year” from our membership roster, and Kevin Wainwright won the “50/50” pot and donated his winnings back to the Club.
Board Meeting is Monday, September 9, 2019. Please plan to be there!
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
